Life Skills Classes

Life Skills groups are a revolving set of classes that youth are required to attend. The goal of these groups is to provide youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to better equip them to make educated choices for their future.

Classes are taught by volunteer guest speakers from local agencies in our community. Life Skills group is intended to educate our clients on relevant issues that they, as youth, face in our society. Examples of the subject matters presented are sexual health (Pregnancy Care Center), financial education (Consumer Credit Counseling), job readiness (MSU Mentoring Program), substance abuse (Burrell Behavioral Health), communication (Forest Institute) and youth crime (NACIA), among others. Research is conducted often to ensure that all resources available to the Juvenile Office are being utilized. New classes are added regularly. Each class attended is assessed to equal three LEAP credits towards a Juvenile's Probation Treatment Plan.
