A private autopsy can be arranged through this office in cases where a forensic autopsy is not warranted. An autopsy can help to answer questions, and give peace of mind to surviving family members. A private autopsy must be ordered by the legal next of kin. Any local funeral home has the necessary authorization form and can assist you in arranging a private autopsy. We do prefer that bodies not be embalmed if an autopsy is to be ordered.

Dr. Spence performs private autopsy cases through Marshall/Heath Pathology. Private autopsy reports are not public record, and are only released to the next of kin who order the autopsy, or their designee.

A completed authorization form and payment must be received prior to the autopsy being performed.
