Proofread your statement. Pay special attention to the vehicles
listed on your personal property statement. These should be the vehicles you
owned on January 1st of 2004. If a vehicle you owned on January 1st is not
listed; or if a vehicle is listed incorrectly (wrong model or year etc.)
then you should have your bill corrected before you pay it. To have the
correction made, contact the Assessor at (417) 868-4101. Make address corrections if necessary. There is an address correction form on the back of the return portion of your tax statement. Please make any needed corrections on this form and mail it back with your payment. We will make the corrections in our records so that the receipt we mail back to you is addressed correctly. Double-check your check. If you are paying multiple statements with a single check, please be sure to double-check your arithmetic. Writing your check for the exact amount due will save you the trouble of resubmitting your payment and possibly incurring late fees. Be sure you understand the amount due. The amount due for an on time payment is printed in the upper right-hand corner of your statement. If you are submitting an on time payment, please don't pay an amount from the late payment chart which is printed below the on time amount. This chart is only for late payments. As long as your payment is postmarked by December 31st, you should pay the on time amount. Be sure to mail your payment by December 1st if you have a vehicle license due in January. Since many people wait until the end of December to pay their taxes, we receive more mail as the payment deadline draws near. Due to the increase in mailing, the later you wait to pay, the longer the wait for your receipt. Please keep this in mind if you will need your receipt in January.
